About Webuquerque
Learn, Network, Socialize
Webuquerque is a New Mexico Adobe User Group geared entirely toward web professionals and folks interested in learning more about the web.
While we are an Adobe User Group, our primary agenda is not an Adobe agenda. The mission of Webuquerque is to promote standards and best practices in web design and development, while helping support and grow the local web community.
To that aim, we host free, monthly events that begin with a presentation on a web topic, followed by socializing and networking. The goal is to combine education and social.
We meet the first Wednesday of every month at One Up Elevated Lounge in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Webuquerque Co-Managers
Webuquerque was created and is co-managed by local Albuquerque web professionals Jason Nakai and Emily Lewis:
Jason Nakai
Jason is a freelance web designer and developer (a designeloper) specializing in streaming media and interactive learning objects. He began his career working with the US Army as a multimedia illustrator, where he developed interactive media and educational software.
In the ten years since then, he has worn many different designeloper hats, but his main interest still lies in educating through technology and the use of rich media. He's also a firm believer in knowledge sharing, which is why he's been an active member of the New Mexico Adobe User Groups for many years and currently co-manages Webuquerque.

Emily Lewis
Emily is a freelance web designer of the standardista variety, which means she gets excited about things like valid POSH, microformats and accessibility. As part of her ongoing quest to spread good word about standards, she writes about web design on her blog, A Blog Not Limited, and is a contributing writer for ScriptJunkie, .net magazine and MIX Online. She's also the author of Microformats Made Simple.
Emily is also passionate about community building and knowledge sharing, which is why she co-founded and co-manages Webuquerque, as well as the local Duke City Tech podcast. She is also an instructor for UNMCE's web design certification program, and speaks at conferences all over the country, including InControl, Voices That Matter and SXSW.

This Site
This new site for Webuquerque is a work in progress. At present, this is a rudimentary experiment with HTML5 and a sprinkling of CSS 3.
We hope to fine-tune the markup structure as we experiment more with HTML5, and plan to implement additional CSS 3 features. We will also be trying different font techniques, rather than our current implementation of image replacement. Finally, we'll be moving this entire site into ExpressionEngine.
